KU Transit Facility
In 2010, KU Parking & Transit built an 18,000-square foot Transit Facility on the north side of Lawrence. The building and adjacent parking lots for buses and employee vehicles cover 8 acres.
One of our priorities at the Transit Facility is to be as environmentally friendly as possible. Although it does not have an official "LEED" status, the building was built with those standards in mind. Some of the "green" features of the facility include:
- a closed grey-water system for the bus wash
- vegetative bioswale to filter the water run-off before it reaches groundwater
- furniture acquired from KU's Environmental Stewardship Surplus program
This was a fast-paced design-build project — see how the building was built in under 8 months!
